Eyelid Rejuvenation

Due to the effects of aging, our eyes can begin to stretch and wrinkle and form fatty deposits that build up around our eyes. This can cause the tissue to bulge forward and the upper eyelids to begin to sag. No matter how well you take care of yourself, you can begin to appear sad, older or tired. With time the skin just begins to lose its collagen and elasticity resulting in this undesired look. Fortunately, with Blepharoplasty or eyelid rejuvenation, we can restore and bring back your natural and radiant appearance. Blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can restore a youthful appearance to the eye area. The upper and lower eyelids are lifted and loose or excess skin and fat tissue are removed from the eye area. The procedure is limited to the eyelids but can be performed with different methods to improve other areas of the face.

How is a Blepharoplasty Performed?
An upper Blepharoplasty removes excess skin from the upper lid by making an incision along your natural crease. The loose or sagging skin is removed from the exterior and then the incision is sutured along the same crease to keep it natural. The procedure takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia as an out-patient procedure.
A lower Blepharoplasty removes excess skin by making an incision along your lower lid. The skin is peeled back and the loose or sagging skin is removed from the exterior as well as the underlying fat pad. The pad is then cauterized (heat sealed) and the incision is sutured. This procedure takes about two hours and is performed under local anesthesia.

What Do I Expect After Surgery?
The post-operative effects are minimal and temporary but you are expected to limit activities and any vision strain for one to two weeks. This means, no reading, watching television or putting any strain on you eyes that can cause further inflammation, or swelling. Stitches are usually removed after five days and you will experience minor swelling, bruising and discomfort, but it should disappear within two weeks. Cold compresses will help alleviate these side effects and with the proper post-operative care, these effects will be minimal.
