Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are smooth yet thick injectables meant to restore volume to the mid-face. Your dermatologist carefully places fillers to build up volume gradually until they achieve a natural result that meets your anti-aging goals.

Foothill Dermatology Center primarily uses hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, a variety that provides a soft, natural-looking result. HA in your body latches onto water molecules to lubricate your joints, hydrate your skin, and keep your eyes from drying out.

Before allowing you to get fillers, your dermatologist conducts a skin evaluation to make sure they can safely deliver the products into your skin and tissues. You shouldn’t have any active skin infections, and you should stop the use of any blood-thinning medications before your treatment to avoid bruising.

Which dermal fillers should I use?

Foothill Dermatology Medical Center uses Juvéderm® HA fillers. Juvéderm is a well-known brand in cosmetic dermatology with several high-end fillers that serve different purposes. Your dermatologist selects the filler for you based on your main goal with treatment.

Juvéderm’s product line includes:

Voluma®

Voluma is the perfect filler for your cheeks. Losing subdermal fat with age can cause sunken cheeks, which can make you look older or less nourished rather than sculpted and healthy. Voluma also corrects the sagging that comes with sunken cheeks.

Volbella™

Volbella is a Juvéderm filler that treats delicate skin around your eyes and mouth. You can use it to create subtle fullness in the lips with fewer lines, or to reduce lines and sagging under your eyes without making your eyes look puffy.

Vollure®

Vollure treats large and deep wrinkles in the lower half of your face, mostly around the mouth. It smooths your nasolabial folds without restricting your ability to smile and express yourself.

How long do dermal fillers last?

HA dermal fillers are quite long-lasting, but they don’t remain in your skin holding volume forever. Your body eventually metabolizes them, but it can take months or years for this to happen.

Some areas can hold fillers better than others, so the length of time you’ll enjoy your results varies based on the targeted area and the specific filler product. Some Juvéderm fillers last for 6-12 months on average, while others remain in place for around two full years. You can get touch-up injections at Foothill Dermatology Medical Center if you want them.
